BIS Quarterly Review and Annual Economic Report
The central banks' bank on global markets: a quarterly review of market developments plus research articles on credit, banking and market structure, and an annual report on the big policy questions. Strong on cross-border credit and dollar funding.
Free to read
Each regular issue of the BIS Quarterly Review opens with a market overview of the past quarter, then runs several analytical articles by BIS economists. Topics lean toward what the BIS sees best from its international banking and debt statistics: cross-border lending, dollar funding, non-bank intermediaries, private credit and central bank communication. The June issue appears only when warranted, because it falls close to the Annual Economic Report.
The Annual Economic Report, published in late June, is the BIS's main statement on the global economy and policy. The 2026 edition covers high public debt and changing financial markets, and money beyond stablecoins.
The writing is technical but compact, and the charts are often original. Read the market overview to see how central bankers are reading the quarter, then pick the feature articles that touch your market. The annual report chapters are worth reading in full when they hit your area.
