The BlackRock Investment Institute is the firm's in-house research and strategy group, led by Jean Boivin, with Wei Li as global chief investment strategist. It publishes the firm's global outlook each December, a midyear outlook and quarterly updates, plus a weekly commentary on what moved markets and how the team is positioned.
The framework is the useful part. BII argues that a handful of structural mega forces, among them demographic divergence, digital disruption and AI, and geopolitical fragmentation, now drive returns more than the classic business cycle, and it maps those themes to tactical calls on equities, bonds and private markets. The Q4 2026 update, Scarcity vs. abundance, applies that lens to the AI buildout and higher sovereign bond yields.
Read the annual outlook to understand the framework, then skim the weekly commentary to see how a very large allocator adjusts its views. The PDFs open after a one-click terms page, with no registration.
